Sometimes (who am I kidding, most times) you feel the need to go EXTRA.
Crispy treats are a delicious indulgence, made with either plain crispy rice cereal or if you want to fancy them up, rice chex, special k, etc. Made plain or with chocolate and peanut butter, they are just damn delicious.
BUT — you can bougie these the fuck up by incorporating toffee AND using CannaButter.
This requires a few specialty equipment needs, but there are workarounds if you don’t have or can’t get your boyfriend Amazon to deliver quickly enough.
BEST Crispy Treats (fight me)
Start with making CannaButter. I had 1g of Boulder Built Hybrid shatter, coming in at 77.9% THC. I melted 1 pound of butter and whisked in the shatter over very low heat. My butter came in at 48.75mg THC per ounce of butter. Yum.
Toffee is stupid easy and extra delicious. You will absolutely need a thermometer, either probe or candy for this part. Yes, it’s in metric. Don’t panic.
Yield: 1 batch of toffee
Dosage: 195mg THC per batch
Time: 35 minutes
- silicone baking mat or heavy duty aluminum foil
- heat-resistant spatula
- small saucepan
- 112g CannaButter
- 112g sugar
- 23g water
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4g vanilla extract
Melt butter in saucepan and add sugar, water and salt. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring constantly with a whisk until the toffee reaches 295F (285F at high altitude). It will change color from yellow to kind of a tawny brown.
Pull off the heat and add vanilla. Stir like mad! Put back on the heat and make sure it reaches 295 again. Immediately pour out onto a silicone baking mat or heavy duty aluminum foil that has been pan sprayed.
Spread thin with spatula and allow to harden.
Break up into chunks and put into a zip-close bag. Use a mallet, a rolling pin, something heavy to smash the toffee into small bits.
Hang on to that bag of delicious toffee bits, you’re going to put them into Crispy treats!
Yield: 9×13 pan, 25 treats
Dosage: 14mg THC per serving
Time: 15 minutes
- 9×13 pan
- pan spray
- heat-resistant spatula
- large saucepan
- aluminum foil
- large bowl
- food-safe gloves (optional)
- 3 oz CannaButter
- 10 oz mini marshmallows
- 4 1/2 cups crisped rice cereal
- pinch of salt
Pan spray your large bowl. Place crisped rice and toffee bits in bowl.
Pan spray large saucepan and place CannaButter in. Melt over low heat. Add marshmallows and pinch of salt and stir, cooking over low heat until marshmallows are completely melted.
Pour butter/shmello mixture over crispy rice and toffee bits. Use spatula to combine until there are no dry bits. Alternatively, use disposeable food-safe gloves, pan spray the gloves and get in there with your paws to mix it all up!
Dump into your 9×13 pan and gently pat into place — do not smash! Allow to set up and cut into 25 pieces.
If you are feeling extra EXTRA, go ahead and melt a bag of chocolate chips in the microwave (gently!) and pour over the top. Spread with a spatula or offset spat and sprinkle with kosher salt. If that shit ain’t bougie, I don’t know what is.
